The philosophy of: Optimistic nihilism (and Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell)

unknown

So nothing matters, and time only goes in one way, and we only live for one blink, and you are just a collection of atoms (or more accurately particles), everything is just the size of an atom, or maybe this is all just a computer simulation, or just a dream, and maybe AI will soon murder us all, and soon you will be old and ugly, and we all eventually (and pretty soon) die, alone, and decompose into nothing.

But that’s exactly why life is amazing. Because you have no limits, humans are stronger and can withstand unimaginable hardship, you can do anything you want,  and you can control any pain you experience, and the only hurt you can feel from an insult is what you yourself give meaning to, and you are just a speck of dust on a pale blue dot, you are invincible, and the universe is full of an endless amount of things to learn about and be amazed by, and there’s nothing you can’t do, and the only thing that exists is now, and maybe this a fun computer simulation, or a really cool dream, and life is full of incredible stuff that is fleeting and short-lived but nevertheless incredible (seriously got nothing to do? Look up viruses, bacteriophages, or what the MRSA Super Bug does.  Start there… because those things… God damn.).

And that’s Optimistic Nihilism (or existential Nihilism). In the words of my my favourite Youtube Channel (which is a central philosophy to their videos):

If this is our one shot at life, there is no reason not to have fun and live as happy as possible.

Bonus points if you make the lives of other people better.

More bonus points if you help build a galactic human empire.

Do the things that make you feel good. You get to decide whatever this means for you.
