How do you know you’re not dreaming right now?

When you dream at night, does it sometimes feel real? So real that you feel anxiety, worry, fear, jealousy, love, happiness and even pain in it?

And if time is relative, and minutes, days, years etc. are just arbitrary markers to signify the earth’s rotation on an axis, and a week can sometimes feel like a year, a year like ten years, or five years sometimes like a week, what’s to say you’re not just dreaming right now? And that when you die, get hurt or something, you aren’t going to wake up from it?

Is it possible to know if you are (or not)? Can we disprove it?

When you wake up from your dream you also cease to exist in it. You never simultaneously go about your day in your ‘awake’ world at the same time as still being in your ‘asleep’ dream. So even though when you’re dreaming you can consciously think to yourself I’m dreaming (which is kind of what I’m doing here), once you wake up, you can no longer confirm to that dreaming self that you actually were dreaming for sure. So fuck it, I don’t know. Anyway, it’s cool to think of all of this, all your worries, fears, anxieties as one dream, because whether it is a dream or not, at the bottom of it all, it is all just one Pale. Blue. Dot.
