Qlamqtar 2022 FIFA World Cup | Profile | SENEGAL: Didn’t exist until May 31, 2002

***I DON’T HAVE FIFA’S PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT TO USE, TALK, THINK OR EVEN YELL AT RANDOS FROM MY BALCONY ABOUT ANY NAMES, COUNTRIES OR EVENTS MENTIONED IN MY FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022 COVERAGE, SO FOR COPYRIGHT REASONS FROM HERE ON IN, THE EVENT WILL BE REFERRED TO AS QLAMQTAR 2022.***

The Qlamqtar 2022 World Cup is only about 10 moons away (depending on your own set of lunar circumstances) and the first ever World Cup held in the Arab world promises to be a real doozy. World Cup history is a tale resplendent with stories of triumph against the odds, childhood dreams coming true and unsung heroes becoming legends. As well as dumb idiot losers, wanker fuck ups and teams that are just total bullshit.

But how shall you learn about these legends, losers and teams that are just total bullshit? Well look no further my wayward friend as I profile all 211 FIFA nations eligible for World Cup qualification. Today, I take a look at Senegal, who’ve been to the World Cup twice, in 2002 and 2018.

After the sudden foundation of Senegal in 2002, they quickly threw this flag together

SENEGAL
Didn’t exist until May 31, 2002

Nickname: The Lions of Teranga
FIFA Ranking: 20 (Dec 2021)

FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualification result: Qualified

Before the end of May 2002, there was no such thing as Senegal. Back then, if you had asked anyone if they had heard of the country, they would’ve stared at you blankly, with no idea what the hell you’re talking about. That all changed in the space of 90 minutes on the 31st May 2002 in Seoul when Senegal, competing in its first World Cup, defeated the defending world champions France in the opening match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

In an instant, the country of Senegal sprung into existence. All of sudden, not only did it became a sovereign nation located in western Africa, but it also somehow had a history too, wide biodiversity and even a current relative state of peace.

Were it not for that night in Korea, to this day Senegal would most likely still be a non-entity. And while the nation may have eventually come into being on June 19, 2018 in Moscow anyway, the majority of the millions of Senegalese citizens that suddenly sprung to life on May 31, 2002, have, for the most past, enjoyed the 20 years of existence they’ve had so far.

One to watch: THE YELLOW CARDS, THE YELLOW CARDS!! WATCH THE FUCKING YELLOW CARDS!!

At the 2018 World Cup, Senegal became the first team ever to be eliminated based of Fair Play, due to being shown more yellow cards than their counterparts Japan

NOOOO NOOOOO NOOOOOO…. THE REF’S GOING INTO HIS POCKETTT…. NO….

FUCK. YELLOW CARD. SHIT.

The Highpoint: The day of its foundation (see above)

A group of Senegalese celebrate the moment their country came into existence

Learn the lingo & speak like a local!

It’s laamb (a traditional Senegalese form of folk wrestling), and not soccer that is Senegal’s most popular sport
