‘It’s less about the outcome, more about the path’. In other words: Fuck the result.

*Sidenote: Contrary to how it looks recently, this is NOT a Spanish site. So back to old, boring ass English I guess.

(From the 2016 Spanish movie, Embarazados

Say you want to say hi to someone or talk to them, but ‘You know, what if…’

What’s actually the worst that could happen?

Or if you want to get in touch with someone but are worried what it’ll come across as, or if you want to tell someone how you really feel about them, or that that they’re funny or smart or beautiful or whatever?

You either “risk” fucking it up, you fuck it up for sure, OR it could actually turn out FUCKING AWESOME.

Most, if not all, of our fears are irrational.

We’ve evolved a fair bit from caveman times when ‘He. Man.’ and ‘She. Woman.’ and taking a risk meant daring to go outside the cave to get food and then possibly getting horrifically slaughtered by a sabre-toothed tiger. You know, actually taking a risk where you could die and you know, be dead.

Compared to those days, there are no risks anymore. Okay, maybe a couple. But most of what we fear, or holds us back, or makes us anxious, is not actually anything. Bullshit. Nada².

And not only that, but if you fuck the result and just enjoy the process, you’re staying true to who you are, and who you want to be. And you’re denying anyone else the right to decide your happiness, other than you.

Think this to yourself next time you want to go out on a limb but aren’t sure if you should:

Will I get slaughtered by a sabre-tooth tiger if I do this?

No? Ok, then do it.

¹ Okay, so maybe it’s still a bit Spanish.
² And a little bit more.

* Sidenote 2: The first part of the title of this is a line from Illy‘s On and On, and even though it sounds horrifically lame, I don’t know what else to call it, but it’s my spirit song. That song is a no-bullshit step-by-step guide on how to live the happy life.
