I’ve been reading a lot about creative, innovative, intelligent and successful people lately (I just finished Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss – that is one amazing book). Reading about these people, and listening to them on podcasts talk about what they do, it seems to me there’s 3 things they all do:
- They read books.
- They stick to their own systems, routines and rules.
- They do some kind of mediation, reflection or introspection.
Phil Knight, Arnold Schwarznegger, Mark Cuban, Matt Mullenweg, Tony Robbins, David Heinemeier Hansson, Jocko Willink, Tim Ferriss, Joshua Spodek, Neil Strauss, Josh Waitzkin, Derek Sivers. Almost without fail, every single one of them does each of these three things. If I had to guess the formula for living the life you want and doing the things you want (and actually getting them done), I think, based on successful people living the life they want (and killing it), that those 3 things are the way to do it.
I don’t know it for sure, but I’m going to test it.
Up until recently, I did 0 out of those 3 things, and I was definitely not content with my life. Now, I do all three and I feel more content than ever. I’m also more productive and waste much less time, I communicate better with my girlfriend and I feel much more present in my current surroundings (and with the people I’m around) than ever.
I’m pretty sure those 3 things really work… Wait, I’ll check… Stay tuned…
