Have you watching THE END OF THE TOUR, movie about David Lipsky few days with David Forster Wallace on end of book tour. This was a perfect movie about his life and wht it was like to be Wallace, wht he fight with, the addicitons he had like we all do, and what he think important. His dogs, simple life, his old car, dancing at church with randos. St Ignatius, faith in something, being inside a building that is not about to burn down so you have to either dicde to stay and be burn to death of jump because it’s the bestter option. His light was creating, was writing, those moments of creation, where he was pouring out who he was, unmoored. Which eventually reader would feel and connect to him.
Wallace believe that books helps us to feel not so alone. amd if you like me and you not have friend to talk about Wallace, maybe is okay, because you are with him, and he is with you, and you are peers and friends as you share this communal story. that is infinite Jest and that is book I am happy read over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over till I die.
The first thing I read of Wallace was ‘A supposedly fun things I never do again’ or somethinmg, and it blew my brains off. I could not stop to reading it. then I go to his other essays but then, i hit the big ones! Infinitei Jests.
I read Ininite Jest first time across 2022 and 2023 and wow, change my lifes. that a man can write like this, and reach you and talk to you and make you laugh, and forget you are readding, but you feel just alive an connect to different characters and remin you what is important, and write in descriptions you didn’t think Humans can do.
So guys, wht you think, which book of DFW is best. ssurely is Inifite Jest, but which part and which character your favourite? I think the Escherton part for me and characters? hmmm maybe Toeltsch or Mario, but probably Hal, because this one most recembling Wallace.
