So even though you can’t go back and change the past, you can work and change your future.
People complain about bad luck or the hand they were dealt in life, but instead of complaining about the hand you got, fuck it. Focus all your attention at getting better at it. Talk to experts, people who have a history of success and play like you want to play. Or if you actually don’t even like poker, fuck it –leave the table and play Connect Four or Battleships instead.
In Moral Letters, Seneca says:
“Let Fate find us prepared and active. Here is the great soul—the one who surrenders to Fate. The opposite is the weak and degenerate one, who struggles with and has a poor regard for the order of the world, and seeks to correct the faults of the gods rather than their own.”
In the Daily Stoic, Ryan Holiday says we can’t turn back time and remake the universe how we’d like it. But we can remake ourselves.
