Matchday 26 isn’t over yet, and there’s still a title-deciding El Clasico to come in a couple hours, but whatever, because you best believe that nothing can possibly top this for CLASSIC LaLiga moment of the weekend:
In yesterday’s afternoon game between Rayo and Girona, with Rayo leading 2-1 and cruising to a valuable win, the home side won a penalty, with a chance to put the result beyond doubt. In this mid-table clash, with Rayo needing a win to keep pushing for a European spot, Oscar Trejo stepped up to give Rayo a two-goal lead and take them seemingly out of reach of the visitors. But…
SAVED! GIRONA STILL ALIVE!
But hang on, actually no, not really.
Following a review, some Girona guy was adjudged to have encroached into the area before Trejo’s spotkick was taken, resulting in a retake, and a chance for Rayo to right their wrong.
Woof. What a relief.
Okay, so now’s a perfect time to try a trick play, am I right? Yeah of course I am!
Trejo, instead of just doing the normal thing and just you know, taking the penalty like 99.999999% of all penalties in history have been taken, decided that this was the right time to Johan Cruyff that shit, merely rolling the ball with a slight touch and leaving it for his trailing teammate Isi Palazón, who then screamed into the box, fired on net, and…
…Blazed over the bar.
Penalty excellence by Rayo. And just to add to the excellence, Girona later equalised (with a cross allowed due to Ici’s slack defending), and held on for a huge 2-2 away draw.
