‘Hygge’ is a Nordic word that closely translates to ‘cosiness’. It’s being comfortable, warm and connected to nature at the same time.
And the Scandinavians also have a very close relationship to the weather. Not one of judging whether it’s good, or bad, but one that has always been, and will always be, closely tied to their identity, survival and happiness.
There’s a Nordic expression¹:
Det finnes ikke dårlig vær –bare dårlige klær
(No such thing as bad weather –only bad clothing)
That’s a rule that should apply everywhere. Not just in Scandinavia.
